School Is Not Supposed to Hurt- Department of Education Office for Civil Rights
Released by the Office for Civil Rights, the School Is Not Supposed to Hurt discusses what the agency has learned about the use of restraint and seclusion in schools, this is the first time the report has included questions about the use of such techniques. According to the report, at least 38,792 students were physically restrained in the 2009-10 school year. The document provides no comparable number for seclusion. The collection was based on information from more than 72,000 school districts representing about 85 percent of the nation's students.
The Comprehensive Longitudinal Evaluation of the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program- School Choice Demonstration Project
The School Choice Demonstration Project at the University of Arkansas, in Fayetteville, examines special-needs students' participation in the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program. Milwaukee has one of the country's largest voucher programs and the examination concludes that special-needs students participate in the voucher program at a lesser rate than they do in the 80,000-student Milwaukee public school system. However, their population is much higher than a state tally of special education participation for the city's private-school-choice program.

These series of experiments conclude that students can understand and interpret more by physically acting out text, either in real life or virtually, rather than by simply reading. Researchers also found that elementary mathematics students who acted out text in word problems were more accurate and less distracted than those who didn’t.
